Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles is another organization about which I feel strongly.
Established in 1974 by a group of lawyers, rabbis, and community activists, Bet Tzedek Legal Services is one of the country’s largest nonprofit legal services organizations. Since its founding, Bet Tzedek has provided free legal services to over 100,000 families, regardless of their racial, religious, or ethnic background. As a result of this free legal assistance, these families were able to overcome neglect, exploitation, and abuse.
The name Bet Tzedek, Hebrew for “House of Justice,” is based on the biblical command, “Tzedek, tzedek tirdof,” which translates to “Justice, justice you shall pursue.” Bet Tzedek puts this principle to work through its relentless pursuit of equal justice for the poor and takes pride in helping those who have nowhere else to turn.
